The Government has launched a new scheme – The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (GBVS) – giving businesses vouchers towards internet connections.
The vouchers will allow businesses to access connections of at least 100 Mbps, and up to 1,000 Mbps.
Carlisle-based internet provider Solway Comms says the scheme could make a genuine difference to the area, and ‘turbo-charging’ businesses growth and development, particularly by making the huge benefits of “cloud computing” and remote data storage a practical option smaller businesses.
The ‘gold standard’ of internet that is full fibre (FTTP/FTTH) is something the Government is keen to encourage.
Vouchers of up to £2500 are available to small and medium sized firms to contribute to the connection costs of a full fibre connection.
Only connections from participating suppliers, including local business internet specialists Solway Comms, will be eligible for vouchers.
Solway Comms has provided this type of connection to several prominent national and local businesses, including Johnson Matthey, Story Contracting, and David Allen IT, and is urging businesses not to miss out on this limited funding.
What’s our take on this scheme?
Solway Comms MD, Nick Kittoe, said: “This is an important development for local businesses and we don’t want people to miss out – and they genuinely could if they don’t act quickly.
“The scheme is for small and medium businesses only and the Scheme will end in either March 2021 OR when all the allocated funding has been used – so, hurry and claim your voucher.
“The vouchers are only valid for 12 months from issue date and if service is not delivered in that time frame the voucher will expire and you remain liable for the install costs.
“Similar schemes have been launched in the past and we’ve helped customers with them, but many people are not aware of exactly how to capitalise.
“At Solway we think that it is only right for us to guide businesses through the process, and we are urging them to get in touch with us so we can help. This scheme could really turbo-charge business growth.
“We are the local experts in providing high speed connections, either wirelessly or through fibre connections. Our message to local businesses is please get in touch before it’s too late.”
This is a new scheme, different to the Better Broadband Scheme, which was designed to help those with speeds of under 2mb/s upgrade their connections and mainly suits homes.
How do I get it?
The scheme is ‘supplier led’ meaning that to take advantage you need to contact your local supplier, who can take it from there. Contact us via email [email protected] or give us a quick call on 01228 21 71 71
